The Equipment You Need to Make Your WFH More Comfortable

It is no news to anyone that pretty much all businesses around the globe have switched to one form or another of working from home. With the recent events that have affected our lives tremendously in the past few months, working from home is the only solution that makes sense, and the safest one, at least for those who can afford to do it.

This means getting the work done while also taking care of one’s health. Sitting uncomfortably at a desk for hours every day isn’t the healthiest thing for your body, let alone staring at a screen all day long.

So, how does one make sure they have the best working from home (WFH) experience possible? This is exactly what you’re about to find out, in addition to the best option in each category, to make sure you get the best in the market.

Powerful WFH PC/Laptop

If you’re someone who likes to get work done from your home office, then a good PC or Mac setup is ideal for you. But, if you like to move around and work from wherever you are, then a laptop or a MacBook is the best thing that’ll work for you.

Let’s just agree that a slow PC, laptop, or Mac will not help you get work done, it’ll make your life worse if anything.

So, how much computing power is enough for you?

The answer depends on a few factors. What kind of work do you do? Are you a developer? Are you a writer? Designer? Or Video Editor?

Writing doesn’t require fast and powerful computers at all. Even a Chromebook would be fine. But, if you happen to use big programs such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, iMovie, or Adobe Illustrator, then you’ll probably need to invest in a high-end computer that can handle all the workload.

If you’re a Mac person, then the 2020 MacBook Pro is the best option you can get for a heavy workload. The 2020 MacBook Air is optimal if you don’t need a lot of computing power but still would use a good portable device that’s able to handle everything small that you throw at it, and has good battery life.

If you’re a Windows kind of person, then you’ve just unlocked a whole new world of options. For a powerful option, then the Dell XPS (2020) is more than enough to handle whatever you throw at it.

For someone who wants to get work done on the go without needing a lot of computing power, then a Chromebook is more than enough for you. And for that, the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is a perfect option.

For desktop users, the 2020 5K iMac will set you back around $1700 but will not disappoint, even if you throw some heavy workload on it.

The Windows version of this can get just as much work done but is more than a $1000 cheaper than the Apple one. HP Pavilion All-in-One is powerful enough to handle pretty much everything and doesn’t need a lot of cable management since it is an all-in-one device. It starts at $649 and can go up to $1000 if you want the best possible version.

Sturdy WFH Desk

Having a computer alone does not cut it if you don’t have the appropriate setup to make sure you are comfortable. Working from a normal table and chair is not good in the long run as the backpains will simply become unbearable.

So, which desks are best for you and your budget?

The Electric Height Adjustable Standing Desk is, as the name suggests, a height-adjustable desk that can be customized depending on how high your chair is, or if you want to work standing up from time to time since it is much healthier. This particular desk will set you back $299.

Of course, there are other options on the market, but we’re only including the best options when it comes to quality and affordability.

Comfy WFH Chair

Now that you’ve got the desk covered, it’s time to make sure the chair you’ll be using is comfortable enough and will protect you from any possible future back pains.

You need a chair that’s adjustable, comfortable, and easy to move around. A lot of options have these specs, so it’s our job to find the best of them all and make sure they don’t cost a fortune.

For optimal comfort and adjustability, nothing beats the Staples Hyken Mesh Task Chair. But this office chair comes at a premium price of $236.

The next best option would be the Staples Ardfield Mesh Back Fabric Task Chair. The chair is slightly less comfortable and less adjustable than the previous option, yet is still comfortable. This one costs just $99.

Finally, the most affordable option in the market is the AmazonBasics Mesh, Mid-Back, Adjustable, Swivel Office Desk Chair with Armrests. The chair is quite ordinary but makes sure it covers all the basics that anyone would need in a chair. It’s height-adjustable and has a comfortable back-rest. This chair will set you back just $72.

Stable WFH Laptop Stand

Preferring a laptop over a desktop PC or iMac means that you don’t like to be confined to a desk, but it doesn’t you won’t ever need to use your laptop on a desk.

This is where a laptop desk comes in handy.

Laptop stands can range from anything between $40 to $150 depending on the quality and brand. You can even get it cheaper if you shop at a Chinese retail website, but we’ll stick with the options available to you here in North America.

The mStand Laptop Stand is a $40 standard stand that gets the job done. It lifts the laptop at an angle and makes sure you get a great viewing angle at all times.

This stand works best if used on a table, a desk, or anything that’s sturdy and doesn’t jerk around. The stand comes with a small cutout in the back to help you organize your cables and stay well-managed.

The most expensive laptop stand we could find is a $150 one that is made out of walnut wood, insane I know!

The Grovemade Walnut Laptop Stand is not overpriced by any means. It looks, feels, works, and is premium. You’ll definitely feel like you’re using a $150 stand as it by no means feels cheap. The stand is very stable on a table or a desk and features a metal that’s stainless to make sure your laptop never slips off it to the ground. Overall, it’s a great deal for those who can afford it.

A Bright WFH Monitor

Although monitors aren’t 100% necessary, especially if you’re going to be using a laptop, they can drastically improve your working experience.

Having an extra monitor gives you a ton more space, and it makes your laptop or desktop PC feel much better and more comfortable to use. After all, using 2 screens is much better than using just one.

Acer offers its 22-inch 75Hz full-HD Monitor that’s bound to give you the extra screen you need in order to get more work done. The monitor will only cost you $90.

If you want something a bit more useful, something like an ultra-wide monitor, then LG will hook you up with its 34-inch Ultra-Wide Full HD Monitor that comes at a premium cost. The monitor will cost you $380.

If you get a monitor for your Work from Home setup, then might as well get a monitor stand that will, well, give your monitor something to stand on. Although we don’t recommend you spend anything more than $100 on this one, there are some stands that reach up to $220 in price, not to mention the $1000 Apple Stand.

The best option and you can get your hands on today is the Jarvis Monitor Arm. The stand will cost you $100 and is worth every single dollar. The stand is very maneuverable, you can adjust its height, move it sideways, front and back, and basically whatever position in which you would like to use your display. Even more so, it comes with a 5-year warranty plan, so you’re covered in case it ever breaks down on you.

Eye-Protecting Glasses

Now that you’ve got your laptop and monitor covered and have something bright to look at. It’s time you thought of getting some glasses that will protect your eyes from the blue light that’s emitted from those screens.

Using your laptop or PC for long hours every day is going to have a bad impact on your eyes, especially in the long run. This is why it is necessary you look after your eyes’ health.

For that, we suggest you get some eye protection glasses. The best option we were able to find on the Internet is the PROSPEK Blue Light Blocking Glasses Pro. You can get them in either Gray, or Red & Black.

These glasses cost $40 on Amazon and give you the option to get them with magnifying glass up to 3.0 x.

WFH Keyboard W/ Wrist Rest

The type of keyboard you’re using matters and can either make working fun or miserable. Especially if you’re using a standard keyboard that has no wrist rests. After a while, you can really start to feel your arms getting tired, especially if you are a writer.

Again, if you are a writer, or you are someone who writes a lot, then you might want to invest a bit more in a good mechanical keyboard. The best option that we could find for this type of keyboard is the Keychron K2 wireless Bluetooth mechanical keyboard.

Using this keyboard is just a blast and will make you find excuses just to start typing on it. The only downside to it is that it needs a separate wrist rest as it does not come with an integrated one. This keyboard costs $70 and is worth every single penny.

If you want a good keyboard that has a wrist rest, then we recommend you check out the Dell Multimedia Keyboard-KB216. This keyboard is very cheap, costing only $19, and is worth a lot more than what you’re actually paying for.

WFH Mouse & Mouse Pad

Working on a laptop and using its touchpad is a pain in the neck. Nobody enjoys, nobody has, and nobody ever will.

Luckily, getting your hands on a wireless mouse is easier and cheaper than ever. Some really good options can cost as little as $50 and are definitely worth the investment.

Take the Logitech – G305 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Optical Gaming Mouse for example. For me, I see the word Logitech when looking for a mouse or keyboard and I immediately hand them my money. Logitech basically doesn’t make wrong moves when they develop mouses and keyboards.

The next option for a wireless mouse is the HyperX Pulsefire Surge. This mouse is a very reliable option and has a bit of style to it as well. if you’re a fan of colors and don’t like something that’s black and white, then this option is definitely the one for you.

This mouse will cost you around $50 and has the option to come with an RGB mouse pad. The whole package will set you back $108.

If you want to get a separate mouse pad, then nothing beats the Dechanic Mini Control Soft Gaming Mouse Pad. It measures at 10”x 8”, and only costs $6.99 at the time of writing this article. The mouse pad works just fine and no one who has tried it before has made any complaints, this is a safe buy if you ask me. Not to mention the fact you can get it in both Green & Black, and Yellow & Black.

Clear WFH Headphones

This isn’t a real necessity unless you edit video or are a music maker. For that, you will need some solid headphones that can transport every bit of the sound from your laptop or desktop. You might also need an amplifier to make sure you aren’t missing out on any important sounds.

For those shopping on a budget, the JBL TUNE 210 is a good option. They are small, lightweight, and do the job just fine. They aren’t the best option for you if you care about sound quality whatsoever, and they cost less than $20.

For something more on the professional side and for sounds enthusiasts, the MASSDROP X SENNHEISER HD 6XX HEADPHONES. These headphones don’t mess around. They are big and are not trying to be stealthy by any means.

They come at the premium price tag of $220 and are worth every single penny you pay. Sennheiser isn’t a company that jokes around when it comes to sound quality, and that is their proud point.

Keep in mind that these headphones are open-back ones, which means if you’re going to be working along with other people in the same room, then they’re going to hear everything single thing you are listening to.

Loud WFH Speakers

Unless you live by yourself or work in a room unbothered, then there’s really no need for speakers. But, we’re here for the people who need the speakers. So, let us discover the best option for you that’s available on the market today.

You can get yourself a good pair of woofers without breaking any bank, as they only cost as much as $50. The first option, which is the Creative Inspire T12 2.0 Multimedia Speaker System with Bass Flex Technology. You can get your hands on these for $53 on Amazon right now!

There is nothing special about these headphones, they are loud enough to get the job done, but don’t expect some mind-blowing bass or anything. You get what you pay for and they don’t feel like you’ve wasted any money.

The next option is a little bit more expensive at $100. The PreSonus Eris E3.5 3.5″ 2-Way 25W Nearfield Monitors (Pair) are by no means a small pair of speakers, and that’s for the powerful bass that they come with.

They are louder than you would expect, and will definitely impress you, especially if you consider the cheap price you’re paying for them.

HD WFH Webcam

Working from home is not complete with a good webcam. Unless you’re using a laptop, which more often than not come equipped with a standard webcam.

You don’t need a Canon camera or anything in order to be able to video chat with your coworkers and boss and attend meetings. But you also don’t have to use the crappy standard camera that’s in your 4-year-old laptop. When it comes to built-in cameras, not even Apple is willing to upgrade their almost-HD MacBook camera.

For that, we suggest you get the AUKEY FHD Webcam. This “HD” webcam is actually 1080p and isn’t a 720p webcam that’s claiming to be full-HD. This camera costs $40 right now on Amazon, and isn’t actually as wide-angle as they claim, which is a good thing. You don’t want your Zoom meeting participants to be able to see your whole room in the video.

The camera angle is just perfect for the purpose it was created for.

The next option is the slightly more expensive Vitade 1080p Webcam. This one costs $100, which is a bit much for a webcam camera. But so far, no one has complained about it. Not to mention that it has a ring light around the sensor to make sure you are bright no matter what environment you’re in.

Final Thoughts

Working from home is no easy process if you haven’t the necessary equipment that’s going to make things easier and worth your while. This is why we recommend you grab some of the necessities before you begin working, doing so will drastically increase the quality of your work, and make you much more comfortable.
